ROBIN'S EGG BLUE

Now that Christmas has past... bring on Spring!  As I have stated in the past I really am a warmer weather kinda girl.  It's not that I don't like to look at pretty snow...it's just that I HATE being cold.  As we speak I am sitting here at my computer staring out the window at my backyard and all I see is trees without leaves and SNOW!!  Yes snow has it's merit's.  I just don't like being cold.  So I got to thinking about spring and about pretty colours.  One of my fav's is Robin's Egg  SR17 by Sarah Richardson.  It is such a pretty blue and really.......  what is not to love about Robin's Egg Blue??

It is one of those colours in nature that Mother Nature got so right!!  I can't even put into words the joy I feel when I am lucky enough to find a Robin's Egg.  It is the kind of colour you can't believe that one would find in Nature.  This kind of colour is one that one doesn't usually find just anywhere.

Sarah's version via Para is just so lovely:

It has just enough green in it to make it just about perfect.

Seeing these lovelies makes me want to paint all my interior doors Robin's Egg!!

Here are some other Pics that is similar in colour to Sarah's Robin's Egg:

I could probably go on and on.  And I will!........At some point.  I will be sure to be revisiting this amazing colour.
Just seeing this lovely colour makes me want to paint something.......

Have a great day everyone.

SARAH 101-DOING A BATH RIGHT!

Hey everyone!  I just wanted to talk about an episode of Sarah 101.  In this episode Sarah and Tommy take a bathroom that was so dated and with issues and made it something really lovely.  Now when you first see what they did many will say, "What!!  A pink Bathroom"?  But hold on.....  let me finish what  I have to say on this bathroom.  First, here it is:

How stunning is that??  I don't even know where to begin!!  I can't figure out what is my fav in here- the double chrome and marble pedestal sink, the hexagon floor or that stunning bathtub!!
Together they all make such an amazing statement.  And really, when you put pink and red together that is what you are doing, making a statement.  No shrinking Violets allowed in here everyone!!
I love the Chinoisserie fabric they chose for the drapes. It is a Quadrille fabric.

I really love all the black and white accents with the red and pink.  Looks awesome.

I know that Pink is not for everyone.  However, I happen to be a huge fan of pink and red.  And when it is done right- like in this bathroom, it can be stunning.  Why do I think it works here?  Well..... the main reason is that for all of the main fixtures and finishes they are neutral.  They are either, White, Black or Chrome.  That is how you do a bathroom with style with a "different" colour palette.  It is very rare to see these colours(red and pink) in combo, never mind a bathroom.
By having white and black as a backdrop and adding hits of pink and red it really works in here.

Since everything in this bathroom that is "fixed" is neutral any number of colour combo's could have worked here.  I love that they chose to go with pink and red.  And I feel that this combo was done really well in here.  By having white, black and red, this colour combo takes on a less feminine  feel.  I feel that it isn't too girly in here.
Down the line when and if the clients get tired of the pink and red it will be so easy to update and change the colour scheme since Sarah did it right!  Want a grey bathroom- no problem.  Repaint the walls gray.... paint it Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray and away you go!!  Want a watery green bathroom- no problem.... paint the walls Sherwin Williams Sea Salt and there you go.  By making the fixed items neutral it will be so easy to change.

I was so glad that the clients had the courage to go through with this daring colour scheme.  I know it's not for everyone but it is nice to be different than everyone else sometimes.
I really feel that Sarah honoured the "bones" of this Victorian home, yet updated it for now.  I think she totally rocked this one!

walls (above chair rail) - SR9 Gown (P5195-24)
walls (below chair rail) & trim - SR29 Snowfall (P5223-14D)

All paint is Para.

Have a great day everyone.

NAVY, MINT/AQUA AND RED

I happened upon a posting yesterday here.  It talks of Navy, Mint and Red.  Then it dawned on me, "That's my house too!"  I mean, I knew my house had those colours but it really hit home to see those words elsewhere.  And it made me think!  Where else are those colours?  I think they happen to look awesome together.  That's why I am doing them in my home.  You have seen a few pics I have posted for the living room and the dining room.  Here are a couple of refresher photos of those rooms and a few new little snapshots of Navy, Mint and Red from around the house.

You can just make out the wall colour in the kitchen - the lovely "Morning Jog" by Valspar - a lovely minty greeney blue.  And you can also just make out a corner of the island through the white chair - a lovely navy - "Mariner" by Martha Stewart.  And of course we have the Red of the dining room - "Hottie" by Para.  The funny thing is, I fought my INSTINCTS for so long about putting some sort of blue in the living room and kitchen.  Yet, it is the most perfect colour I have EVER put there!!

Again, here is the Living Room in "Morning Jog" by Valspar.  Can't say enough about this colour!!

Here are some other photos from around the house- - some new, some not so new!

This pic is taken from the Kitchen into the Dining Room.  I just wanted to show the colours together.

Here are some other pics I have found on the web with the same colour scheme:

Yes, yes....... I know!  I am slightly obsessed with this pattern!!!  I have an idea I am brewing to make with this pattern!

I can't even put into words how lovley this pin is.  I's like a little packet of Joy!  Love, Love, Love the fabric.  And the pearl is the perfect complement to it too!  Check it out on the link I provided.

This has to be one of my favourite blogs that I go to everyday- House of Turquoise.  So much inspiration, can't say enough about this blog- it is awesome!!  Erin is everything Turquoise and that's why I love her blog everyday.  It's just a happy place to be!

Well that's about it for now.  I hope you have gotten some inspiration with Navy, Mint and Red.
Have a great day everyone.

DINING ROOM REVEAL!! FINALLY!

Well everyone, I can finally show pics of the Dining Room.  It has taken a little longer to get there than we first thought!  Like by a couple of months!!  But I suppose we all get there in the end.  Now before I go any further I have to thank my lovely husband  without whom the dining room would never have been possible.  Sounds sorta like an acceptance speech at the Oscars!  But I really am thankful.  Not only is he ubersmart and handsome but the man can swing a hammer!!  As my Dad used to say about Den- "he is as handy as a wee pot".  (Dad was Scottish)  And thank goodness Den is handy!  He has made such an effort to put my ideas into fruition.  When one has a limited budget being handy is a definate asset!!  So thank you, thank you my dear man!

Here is the BEFORE-  Nothing really wrong with it, but just wanted to really up the ante as it were:

It can be quite a challenge taking pics in my dining room since it doesn't really get direct sunlight.  Although we do have the window and the back door-we never really get direct light.  So please bear with me with my pics.  Would love to get professional pics taken some time soon!!

Here is another shot.  It is taken from in the kitchen into the dining room.  When we first bought the house, to say that the kitchen was unworkable would have been an understatement!  We opened up the wall between the kitchen and the dining room.  That way we can sit at the island or in the dining room.  By opening up the space it really made the space way more functional and way more sociable!  Everyone always ends up at that island.  I am currently working on that island at repainting it "Mariner" by Martha Stewart-more to come with the kitchen in a later posting.  I just this past week painted the kitchen "Morning Jog" by Valspar to match what is in the Living Room now.

The next shots are the destruction phase. This is the phase where one starts to doubt and think, "What the hell was I thinking?"  You know what I mean??  But we plug onwards and save judgement until the end.  Well at least we should.  This in between phase is so hard, but persevere and you shall be rewarded!!

So now before I reveal all, I have to say that I have always wanted Wainscoting in the house.  And I thought that doing so in the Dining Room would fit the bill.  And I was soooo right- it is beyond my dreams how it all tuned out.
Remember the difficulty I had with the White paint I chose?- previous post!  But thanks to Fran at Home Hardware she fixed me up real nice!  I would have to say that the white that is on the panelling is a custom tint and that it is about 1/2 strength "Pocket Watch White" by Ralph Lauren- so I am calling it "Megan's White".  Just enough warmth that isn't too yellow like Pocket Watch White can be.  Or too creamy like a Benjamin Moore Cloud White- Note:  Cloud White to me is NOT the be all and end all that so many people go on about-but that's just me!!

The Red that I chose was "Hottie" by Para:

Hottie by Para P5086-25

It is such a gorgeous Red.  Not too dark but with some life in it.

And so without further ado:
AFTER:

Denis did such an awesome job with all of the panelling and the trim.  Especially the frieze boards above the opening, door and window.  He totally rocks when it comes to trim!
And the white of the trim really pops against that rockin' Red!

At first we were just going to add boards to the walls-taking the easy way out (not that there is anything wrong with easy sometimes).  It is just that when we were going to do so we noticed that the wall texture wasn't right where the vertical boards would have been (the space between the boards).  So we added hard board first and then the verticals.  Looks WAY better.  Just wanted to mention in case you ever wanted to add wainscoting like we did.

You can just make out the wall colour in the living room-"Morning Jog" by Valspar.  The icy blue looks so nice next to the pillar and the Red of the Dining Room.  We did the whole pillar thing between the living room and the dining room for a couple of reasons; 1. to make a natural break between the two rooms and 2.  I just can't get enough of trim and detail!!

I want to mention that we will in the future be scraping the ceiling of it's awful "popcorn" and be adding either beadboard to the ceiling and/or adding crown moulding.  To me the room will NEVER be truly complete until that crown is in.  But I think it still looks pretty awesome so far!

Well that's it for now.  I hope you have enjoyed the reveal.  Sorry it took so long but sometimes life just gets in the way-but you all know what I mean by that?  We have all been there.
Have a great day everyone.
