CHURCH CONVERSION

Hey Everyone.....Loving the Olympics.....still watching as much as I can. I am so proud of our Athletes, they are doing an amazing job! Nothing like hearing your National Anthem!
Today I have an amazing little architectural gem. There is just something about converting a building from something that was a more commercial application whether it be a barn, factory or even a church into a home. I especially love church conversions. I can't put into words how much I love a great church conversion.
This one hails from Melbourne, Australia. Like I needed another reason to love all things Australian!! What I love about this conversion is that they left the front facade very much intact. There is absolutely no question that this used to be a church. I know that the addition may not be everyones cup of tea, however I really like it. I love the way in which they have tried to meld this two by adding the posts to the front of the main part of the church with the materials of the new addition. Its the kind of reno that isn't trying to be something it's not. Some may think that there isn't any connection between the two but I beg to differ. The vaulting of the new addition mimics the old. The strong horizontal line above the garage mimics the horizontal lines found in the wood of the original. I will say I do like the juxtaposition of the square window in the new addition as compated to the arched and round windows of the old. In short- I really like it. I only wish we had more opportunities in this area to do the same. It seems that you would have better luck in the UK to pick up one of these little lovelies. Enjoy this great little reno.

I love how they opened up the back. I really like how they used glass into the corner to really open up the backside. I too love that arched window on the second floor-simply stunning. The lines here in the back are just so lovely.

Just look at those amazing brackets. I loves me a great bracket-especially ones as big as those.

LITTLE CABIN IN THE WOODS!!

Since it is the season of snow......and I am TRYING to embrace it. I really am trying.......I came across this amazing Cabin. I suppose if I lived in the mountains and had oodles of money it may look a little something like the following Cabin. What I loved the most about this design is the use of natural elements throughout the build. The interior decor isn't my taste-it is very lovely don't get me wrong. But what struck me about the build was the types of wood used throughout. In particular the use of tree trunks- yes tree trunks. It is so amazing.......check it out:

As I have stated in the past.....I am not that jazzed about winter. I am not that fond of the cold. You would think that after 40 years I would be? I have lived here in Canada most of my life! But I long for the days when I can wear my flip flops and put on Capri's. But I am trying to love the cold.....I really am!

CHRISTMAS INSPIRATION

I don't know about the rest of you out there....but we got a boat load of snow this past weekend here in Burlington, On. I think we got over 30cm. To be quite honest......it looks so lovely out there today....all that white, all that bright blue of the sky. This past weekend we were at a curling bonspiel in a city about 50km away. To say that it was an interesting drive there would be an understatement. Here in my neck of the woods we aren't ususally inundated with Lake Effect Snow. But of course Murphy had to rear his ugly head and dump a whole load of snow on us just when we had to travel. It was a slightly white knuckle drive for part of the way. For those of you out there familiar with driving in such conditions I know you sympathize, And for those of you fortunate to have never driven such a hair raising, stomach twisting drive.....count yourselves lucky! It was a long weekend....VERY LONG, LONG WEEKEND. The boys played in a bonspiel (curling) with kids much older and way more experienced than they were. They fought hard and played their hearts out and still it wasn't enough. That's how it goes sometimes and it is a very hard lesson to learn at 13-heck it's a hard lesson to learn at any age. Hopefully with a little time they will come to realize how friggin' amazing they truly are and the fact that they hung in there, didn't give up and didn't get completely blown out of the water..... well I hope they will get how good they are and how good they could be.
Anyways.....as I sit here looking out the back window at the lovely snow......30 odd cm of it! The blue of the sky....it makes me think of the coming holidays.....and the type of idealic house that somehow looks all the more special this time of year.
I wanted to share such a house since it is so lovely and fits that bill:

Isn't it lovely?? Do you think there might by something like this for me under the tree come Christmas morning.....Oh a girl could wish!
What I love about this house is the use of the red accent. To me it is used to perfection- just enough. I love all the natural elements. I love the contrasts of light and dark wood.

I truly love this home. I can't make up my mind what I love most-all of it I guess!! And that "play house" out back- Sigh!!
This amazing build is by Great Neighbourhood Homes. Isn't it stunning? Lovely?? So liveable? I LOVE IT!!

I know I haven't been around much as of late......I have been struggling a bit as far as the blog goes. Feeling like I have been having a bit of writers block and all that. I truly love sharing my passion with you all. I just haven't been feeling myself lately. Hopefully all will be back to normal soon.

MODERN ART DECO

Hey Everyone....I wanted to share with you a house that is OVER the TOP!!! But it's still pretty amazing. How would I describe this house?? Well................To me it sort of Art Deco meets Hollywood Glamour meets California mid 80's.........a mouthful for sure. The reason I wanted to share it is that it is unlike anything I have seen before. It is over the top, it is glamorous, it is outrageous but still controlled. Yet there are moments of quiet. So without further ado...Enjoy:

Now as you know I am a nautical, cottagey kinda girl. That's my style. But I just had to share this one with you all. It is so out the realm of most of us out there. For me....is it too much....well for me anyways. However, there are some really pretty pieces and rooms in here that I can still be inspired by. I love the kitchen...all that white. That great farm sink and faucet. Gorgeous cabinetry. Stunning Murano White glass Chandeliers. And of course the classic black and white tiled floor. This kitchen would not be out of place in many homes. It is loaded to the gills but it still reads as very pretty and very functional. I will say that even though this home is very glamorous and isn't everybody's cup of tea......there is still a comfortableness about it. All the fabrics are comfortable looking, as are all the pillows. There is a lot of Velvets used throughout that lend a comfort to an otherwise very glamorous space. That being said I don't think that I need quite so much furniture or an audience in my Master Bath!! And the palette is quite neutral- Black, white and Taupe. This is a classic that never goes out of style.

This amazing home was designed by Jeff Andrews. He is definitely all about glamour! You should check out his other projects. You can see that Jeff is a big fan of texture.....Grass Cloth, Velvet.....There is such a layeredness to his projects....is that a word?? Layeredness...........that is how I see it when I look at his work. There is definite glamour....yet the style of furnishings and the type of fabrics used set a comfort level in a room that may feel off limits if other fabrics were used in it's place. Velvet beckons one to sit and be comfortable. And let me tell you it wears like Iron. There is nothing delicate about that workhorse.
And since he uses tones found in Nature, nothing feels too frenetic. The palettes he uses are very calm and soothing-even with all the glamour he tries to convey. I think I have a new design crush!! I feel that if I had the money to do so, I would want to try to incorporate some of his style of design. I adore the sophisticatedness of it, yet, love the comfort as well.
