FAVOURITE REDS-RED DOOR!

Hey Everyone!!  I would love to show you the new ribbon board I talked about yesterday but it is so dark and gray in my house the picture would look horrible.  It is currently 3C and raining.  In fact it is pouring.  I really hate it when it rains in January.  If it is going to be winter then at least Old Man Winter can have the courtesy of staying cold enough so that when precipitation shows up at my doorway it does so in the way of snow.  Everything looks so much prettier when the snow is covering it.  But today--- BLAH!!  Dark and rainy!!  So I got to thinking what makes me smile when I look at a house.  The first thing that catches my eye is the Front Door.  Now I know I have blogged about front doors before but today I am going to talk about RED!!  That fiery, hot and sizzling colour.  Something to really get the blood going.  And I will share some of my Favourite Reds for a Front Door too.  Enjoy:

Not only is the shingle style awesome but you all know how much I LOVE Oval Windows!  But what really does it for me is that front red door.  It is so the right red to go with the gray of the shingles.  The Architect mentioned that it was very similar to Sherwin Williams-Lusty Red SW 6863.  It also happens to be one of my favourite reds!!

Wouldn't you just love a front door that looked like this??  I don't even know where to begin with this one.  The limestone facade, those lanterns or the door itself!!!

This little lovely is Real Red by Sherwin Williams.  It really does look lovely with the stone work and trim used.  And...gotta love those topiary's.  I love topiary's.  There is just something about them.

This amazing set of doors is by Sarah Richardson.  When I first saw this a couple of years ago I nearly went out and bought that red to do my own doors.  Still might!  I love what she has done here.  By painting the doors red not only has she highlighted them but she has imparted so much personality to an otherwise mundane space.  That and of course adding that great rug from Ikea didn't hurt either!  The red used here is from her line of colours through Para paints.  It is Orchard SR 53 but is also known as Para P5282-85 (Schmooze).

I really do think that Red is such a great choice to go with gray.  The hotness of the red really plays well off the coolness of the gray.  Plus it really lets you know where the front door it.  There is no hiding from a red door that is beckoning.

This amazing home is located in Toronto, Ontario.  It is very typical of homes in certain areas of the city.  It is so classic and gorgeous.  I love the Trim colour that they chose, so perfect.  And the red is the perfect shade too.  Not bright, not orangey- just perfect.

The colour of the front door is Benjamin Moore- Moroccan Red

Benjamin Moore-Moroccan Red 1309

I really love how they have used red as an accent colour for both the window frames and the doors.  This combination of red with either gray/taupe looks great on an Arts and Crafts home or like here, a Prairie Style home.

Who doesn't love a barn door??  And if you do, then these are a lot of door to love.  They are simply amazing.

What makes this door so amazing besides that incredible doorknob is how impactful the bright red is.  The space is very neutral and calm, with that hit of red it really makes a statement.

This is such a great example of, "Look at me".  The exterior of the house is very neutral and quiet.  By adding red and framing the door out in black it really is telling everyone coming to the house....come on in here.

Again we can see how impactful red has been used in leading you to a particular spot, it is saying...."come over here"

Some of the reds that I showed above are definitely in my Yes column for favourite reds.  I also have a couple more to add.

Sherwin Williams-Heartthrob SW6866

ICI- Salsa-10YR 14/348

Farrow & Ball- Blazer 212

I really could go on and on because I LOVE the colour RED!!!!!   I also could have put hundreds of pictures of red doors.  They are so popular and is it a wonder why??  For me some of the best reds out there come from Sherwin Williams and Farrow & Ball.  They are my fav's.
The great thing about Red is that it is one of those colours that  looks awesome in both a Traditional and a Contemporary setting.

Hopefully this will have warmed up those of you stuck in the depths of winter like me.  Or for those in warmer climes some inspiration.

Have a great day everyone.

VERA BRADLEY LOVE

Hey Everyone!  I think that I am becoming mildly obsessed with Vera Bradley.  I love the prints that they produce for their products.  But I really wish that they would make that great fabric available as is.  Oh the pillows, drapes or bedspreads I could make.

Speaking of Vera Bradley I came across this image:

Where do I even start?  The tone on tone wallpaper in that burnt red- could it be Farrow and Ball??.  The awesome green of the front doors.  The SHAPE of those said doors!!  That killer wallpaper in the front entryway- the Chiang Mai Dragon by Schumacher. The trim....the Chandelier....... The slipper chairs in that insane paisley fabric.......OYYY!!!!  Makes me want to redo the whole house to match.

Here is a close up of that wallpaper from the foyer:

I am not going to go into too much about it here as it has been blogged about everywhere.  Suffice it to say it looks amazing in that foyer area!!!

Here is another shot of that same store:

I am pretty sure that it is this wallpaper --Broad Stripe ST1316.  It is pretty friggin' awesome.  Anything stried is A OK in my book.

I just love all the sunny colours.  Do you think they would notice if I moved in??

What got me thinking about Vera Bradley was......I bought a really cute Ribbon Board yesterday at our local Value Village.  What caught my eye was the fabric-a great navy print.  And even from far away it looked like it hadn't ever been used.  When I got to it, I could see that it had indeed NEVER been used.  When I picked it up to look at the price on the back I saw that it was a Vera Bradley.  And you will never guess how much it was.... $4.99!  $4.99!  I snatched that puppy up quick.  Now I would have shown a pic here however it is so dull and gray here I can't get a great pic.  Hopefully in the next day or two I will be able to show you all.  But I couldn't wait to talk about it.  I mean those puppies usually go for at least $45.00.  And lets face it...I couldn't have bought the materials and made it for $4.99.  I tried to find a pic on the net to show but I couldn't find one with my fabric.

Anyways....Have a good one everyone.

LAURA AND KIRAN

Hey everyone!  Just a very quick post today.  I came across this image of this amazing store front. For those of us here in the east of Canada it will be new to you-maybe??  It is the great fabric store of Laura and Kiran they have some amazing fabrics-and you know I loves me some amazing fabric.  Here is that store front and one of their fabrics that makes me want to completely redecorate my house!

How fun is this store front.  It would put a smile on my face every time I walked by.  Wish we had something like this great store where I live!!

This amazing fabric can be purchased at Tonic Living.  It is $29.95/yd.  To me that is such a great price for such a great fabric.  Oh how I would love to get some.  Don't think my man would be too happy though.  But that is the hazard of being me.  Always thinking of what I can do next.  It can be a curse sometimes!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone.

HOPEFULLY NOT OUT FOR LONG!!

Hey Everyone!  Hope all is well in your Universe!  It seems that I am having a bit of an issue with my back. So sitting at the computer for hours is definitely out.  Hopefully all will be well soon.  Until then I wanted to share with you all a great idea for shelves in a kids room or an office or family room even. Enjoy:

Not only is that shelving a fantastic idea but that ceiling is pretty awesome too.

Take care everyone. Have a great day.

GOTTA LOVE A GREAT BUILD!

So I was trolling the net for great design..... and boy did I find some great eye candy.  When I first saw this exterior shot I actually made an audible gasp! Case in point:

Between the Portico roof line, the stone or the cedar shake roof.......  Love it all!

This pic introduced me to Oak Hill Architects.  You all know how much I love traditional design and architecture...well this firm certainly fits the bill.  I love a well thought out, detail filled build/reno.  When they say God is in the details they weren't kidding.  So sit back and enjoy the details:

This lovely house is named- "Happy Hollow".  How amazingly quaint is that??  Just transport me here please....

I love  a house with a great roof line, stonework and of course Oval Windows!!

What is not to love about this kitchen?  No detail has been left.  I love how they did not play it safe and paint the insets in the ceiling white.  By painting them blue they highlighted what a great ceiling they have created.... "Look up here!"

That Mill work!!  I am a HUGE fan of Mill work.  Nothing transforms a room like great trim.  I am not crazy about the chairs or the valance on the window but that is a personal thing..... But that Mill work is amazing!

So traditional but oh so lovely....

I just had to add this pic....  that floor is amazing.  I am always in awe of a stone inset floor.  The amount of talent it takes to make something like this!!

I am crazy about the mill work in this office.  Usually I am an all white kinda girl when it comes to Mill work but this is perfection.  I love how light filled this space is.  It does not feel heavy in here at all.  And you really do have to appreciate this Stained Mill work.  Imperfections cannot be hidden with a coat of paint.  Again... gotta admire talent.

Nob Hill:

I love the use of copper on the exterior of this house.

What a lovely sunny spot.

You all know how much I love an oval window!!

I hope you have all enjoyed this great eye candy and maybe gotten a little inspiration from it.
Have a great day everyone.

BLACK AND WHITE

Hey Everyone!  I just love it when you see a classic design that feels very fresh for now.  Case in point- this amazing home done by Imbue Merchandising and Design- and they are Canadian-YEA!  I love a black and white room- I mean love it.  It is one of those looks that is so hard to get right but when it is done well, boy oh boy it looks divine. Enjoy:

How amazing is this duo??  Gotta love a black dining area- such drama.  Yet, it is not dark at all.  They have balanced out the dark with the light beautifully.

Hope you have enjoyed.
Have a great day everyone.
