DREAM MOUNTAIN CABIN

Hey Everyone!  I came across this "cabin" on Houzz and it was one of those drop your jaw moments.  I really love a well thought out space.  This space is one that is grand due to the scale.  However, with the use of colour, natural elements and textiles it brings it down to a human scale and makes it a place where you really would want to kick back.  Enjoy:

How amazingly ridiculous is this place.  Talk about Cowboy Chic!  I love it!  I am totally blown away by all of the finishes and textiles.
This amazing project was done by Ashley Campbell.
Hope this gave a little inspiration today.

Have a great day everyone.

GREAT GRAY/BLUE KITCHEN

Hey Everyone!  I came across this amazing Gray/Blue Kitchen on Houzz.  Enjoy:

This amazing Kitchen is by Gast Architects.  You should check out their other projects- Crazy amazing!

As far as the colour for this kitchen is concerned, I just couldn't peg it down and there just wasn't any info on it.  There was a couple of people putting their own two cents worth in... but when it comes to that I just don't take any stock.  If it doesn't come from the source I just don't pay attention.  It is was too hard to tell from a pic what colour this may be.  This type of colour is one of those colours that can be way to hard to peg down.  The cabinets may not be as blue as they are showing in the pics.  They may in fact be quite blue but it is too hard to tell.  Are the cabinets a Blue that is grayed down or is it a Gray with a strong Blue undertone?  What do you think??  This is such a great lesson when it comes to colour and what you see on your monitor.  Unless you get the actual colour from the source then I would take it with a grain of salt.  There are many out there that do NOT understand undertones at all or saturation of a colour.  Many will just guess without really understanding colour.  One of the best Designers/Architects that tries really hard to answer questions on Houzz is Garrison Hullinger.  He is so great at answering questions.  And you can tell by his answers that he not only is passionate about what he does, cares enough to answer questions but also gets quite annoyed when people answer questions and are way off.  Can't really blame him.  He truly tries to reach out to get the right info to those who ask.  I really respect him for that..

Have a great day everyone.

PURL BEE- HUDSON'S BAY CRIB BLANKET

Hey Everyone!  I just wanted to share with you all a blanket that I knit for a dear friend as a wedding gift.  Although the bride and groom asked for only "best wishes", I just couldn't resist making them a little something.
For a long time I have wanted to knit The Hudson Bay Crib Blanket.  There is just something about those colours:

It is the kind of knitting that is gloriously mindless.  There are those that get bored with knitting if they are not being challenged.  I am not like that.  As long as my hands are occupied then I am pretty much happy.  If you are new to knitting or want to knit something that is super easy but looks so great when it is done, then this is the project for you.  I just wish I had come up with it first!!  I have wanted to knit this puppy for some time.  I am having trouble finding just the right yarn in my price point.  So until I can knit with the Hudson's Bay colours, I thought I would give it a go in other colours.
I decided to knit up the gift in 100% Acrylic as I was unsure about whether or not they would have a problem with any amount of wool in the blanket.  The yarn I chose for the main part of the blanket was Loops and Threads Impeccable.  Not only was it a great price point but it is a really nice, soft yarn to knit and cuddle with.  To be quite honest I was really surprised at how nice this yarn feels when it is knit up.  I used a combo of Vanna White and Impeccable for the banding:

I literally decided to make this blanket while I was in Michael's back in the middle of Dec.  I called the "bride" to ask her what colours she would like to see as an accent in her living room.  She herself is a decorator and so I wanted to make sure that the colours would be right.  However, I had to ask in such a way as not to completely tip her off.
I decided to make the blanket larger than the crib one that was called for so I casted on 180 sts.  And can you believe I totally forgot the finished  measurements??  I measured it about 3 weeks ago but I can't remember what it was. I will have to call her up and ask her to measure it.  But suffice it to say that it is a nice lap blanket size.  She was beyond thrilled with it, much to my relief.  It is always a bit tense when I give a gift that is knitted.  I know that I love it but that's not to say they will.  But, I have been lucky so far.
I wanted to give them something made with love, something that she will have forever and to have to always remind her how much she means to me.
I would make this blanket again in a heartbeat without any hesitation.  Any worsted weight yarn would do.  Just make sure that the yarn is soft and cuddly.  I cannot wait to find the right yarn to make my own "Hudson's Bay" version- not crib though.  Definitely lap size for sure.

Have a great day everyone.

FAVOURITE KITCHENS OF ALL TIME PART 2

Hey Everyone.  Here is the second installment in my favourite Kitchens of all time.  Without further ado.. here they are:

This amazing kitchen is by Susan Serra.  Has to be in my top 3 for sure.

Created by the amazing Garrison Hullinger.  This kitchen puts me in my happy place.  Wait... that doesn't even come close to describing how this kitchen makes me feel.  Simply amazing.  Top 3 maybe even 1st or 2nd!!

When I first saw this amazing kitchen by Tommy Smythe on the cover of Canadian House and Home I literally gasped in the middle of WalMart!  LITERALLY!!  Again, I can't even put into words how delicious this kitchen is.  GORGEOUS!!

I am sure that everyone has seen this one before.  Those Pendants just do IT for me.  Anyone have a spare $6000.00 for the pair??

Well that's it for now.  Hope this gave a little inspiration.

Have a great day everyone

ROBIN'S EGG BLUE

Now that Christmas has past... bring on Spring!  As I have stated in the past I really am a warmer weather kinda girl.  It's not that I don't like to look at pretty snow...it's just that I HATE being cold.  As we speak I am sitting here at my computer staring out the window at my backyard and all I see is trees without leaves and SNOW!!  Yes snow has it's merit's.  I just don't like being cold.  So I got to thinking about spring and about pretty colours.  One of my fav's is Robin's Egg  SR17 by Sarah Richardson.  It is such a pretty blue and really.......  what is not to love about Robin's Egg Blue??

It is one of those colours in nature that Mother Nature got so right!!  I can't even put into words the joy I feel when I am lucky enough to find a Robin's Egg.  It is the kind of colour you can't believe that one would find in Nature.  This kind of colour is one that one doesn't usually find just anywhere.

Sarah's version via Para is just so lovely:

It has just enough green in it to make it just about perfect.

Seeing these lovelies makes me want to paint all my interior doors Robin's Egg!!

Here are some other Pics that is similar in colour to Sarah's Robin's Egg:

I could probably go on and on.  And I will!........At some point.  I will be sure to be revisiting this amazing colour.
Just seeing this lovely colour makes me want to paint something.......

Have a great day everyone.

RIBBIE TAIYO SCARF

Hey Everyone!  For Christmas I was lucky enough to get a gift certificate to one of my favourite yarn stores- Spun here in Burlington.  So after the Boxing Day rush I went and purchased this:

Noro Taiyo, it really is a great yarn to knit with.  Even if the pattern is not complicated you can't really get bored.  You just can't wait to get through the colour bands to see how it will end up looking.  It is made up of 40% Cotton/30%Silk/15%Wool/15%Nylon.  It really isn't scratchy at all.  The combo of fibres really is nice.  For those of you that do not like a Woolly, scratchy yarn then this may be just for you.  The Cotton and the Silk give it a really nice hand.  And all that variegation- LOVE IT!!

I previously made up a scarf pattern and called it Ribbie-Rib and garter scarf.  But I am now re-releasing it as Ribbie Taiyo Scarf.  It can be found on Ravelry here.  The only difference in the two patterns is the original was knit up in Bernat Mosaic- which is fabulous by the way, on a 5mm needle.  This pattern was knit up in Noro Taiyo on a size 4.5mm needle.  It looks really nice knit up in the pattern I created.  Here it is:

I really did enjoy knitting up with the Noro.  It is nice to knit with, however... I do caution those that have never knit with it that when joining a new ball you have to consider a couple of things.
1.  When joining a new ball be very careful when pulling to knot the yarn together as the yarn itself may break- be gentle but firm.  It is quite strong to knit with but can pull apart easily when knotting/joining another ball.
2.  You have to consider how you want the colour to flow when adding a new ball.  Do you want to add a new ball just as is or do you want the pattern of colour to continue.  If you want to continue the colour pattern already established throughout the previous ball, when you add that new ball you may have to unwind the ball a bit to match up where you left off.  This is what I did with this scarf so that the colour would continue as established.  Is this important?  Well that is up to you.  It probably would have looked OK but me being me.... well I would have noticed.  Does that make sense??

If you do decide to knit it.  Drop me a line.  And as always if you have any knitting questions(or design for that matter), you can always contact me.  I would love to hear from you.

Have a great day everyone.
