SNEEK PEAK RL INSPIRED WRAP/SHAWL

Just a quick posting today.  I am finished knitting my Ralph Lauren inspired Shawl/Wrap. I have to come up with a name for it.  I mean.... it needs a name and all!!   It ended up being a little bigger than I originally envisioned.  But, boy is it a big hug!  I love it.  I can't wait to wrap myself in it.  I just have to weave in the ends and block it.  I cannot stress how important blocking is.  It allows the "true" shape of your piece to come to life. I was thinking that I need to do a little demo in the future.  I tend to steam block a lot of my pieces.  It seems to work for me.
Here is a little look:

I really love the colours in this one.  It has a total of 8 colours total.  I think it will look awesome with a great pair of jeans.  Granted I will be completely enveloped in this wrap but it will still look awesome and be oh so cozy!!

I also have a new scarf pattern started.  And I have a second on the books as it were.  AND I have cowl that is coming up too. PHEW!!!!

Have a great day everyone.

MINK YARN!!

So.... I was in one of the yarn stores that I frequent- Spun and they had a new yarn in.  That yarn is Miya by Louts Yarns

This yarn is 70% Mink/20%Merino/10%Silk.  I can't even begin to tell you how soft this lovely yarn is.  Apparently to get the Mink fur they comb it out or sheer the little creatures!!  It is one of the softest yarns I have ever felt.  It is a fingering weight yarn and is $18.00/skein.  I think it is worth every penny.  I would love to know if anyone out there has knit with it yet.  My mind is ticking away with what I would make.  The yarn would be great for something that is drapey like a scarf or a dressy shawl.  What a great gift it would make!!  Here are the other colour is comes in

Spun had Spring Green, Aubergine, Antique Ruby and Trolley Grey.  I was really taken with the Green and the Purple.  GORGEOUS!!!

Apart from that I have been toiling away with my new Shawl Pattern that will be done soon.  It is a Ralph Lauren inspired one.  I love how he can put colours together.  I am also starting another scarf pattern as we speak that is similar to my Easy as Pie Scarf.  Will keep you updated.

Have a great weekend everyone.

NAUTICAL BATHROOMS

I have and always will love all things nautical.  I suppose it is a deep desire to live by the ocean.  I suppose I have the next best thing in that I live about 4 or 5 blocks from Lake Ontario.  I can literally walk and be there in about 15 mins.  Gotta love living in downtown Burlington!!  Here are some Nautical inspired bathrooms.  Enjoy:

I know it's kind of themey, but I love it.  Especially the vanity.  Note: that if it were mine I would varnish the  heck out of the top.  I just love a wooden counter top- just have to varnish/urethane it.

I truly adore this bathroom.  Love the maps for wallpaper.  I also love the fact that they matched the undertone in the tile with the maps.   Yea undertones.  It is always nice when people get that right!!

I love a great compass on the ceiling.  I remember Candice Olsen doing this some years ago in a nursery and I still love it.  It never goes out of style.

I have admired this bath for some time now.  I think what keeps drawing me back is the vanity/counter and the lights.  It's the lights!! I love them.

You can't get more nautical than this.  The mirror, the light, the wood.   Love it!

Now... I put this one in because of it's modern interpretation of the nautical theme-the lights, the round mirrors and the tile on the floor.  Really great if you don't want it to be too themey!

This bathroom for me is quintessential nautical.  The mirrors, the lights (especially the lights) and of course the red, white and blue!!

What I love about this bathroom is it's subtle nod to nautical.  The white with the natural stone.  The watery wall colour.  I have no idea what the wall colour is but you may want to try... Benjamin Moore Ocean Air or Summer Shower.

I adore Tineke Triggs and her design sense.  I love her nod to Nautical here.  Love the Navy Blue, the Wallpaper theme and the wood detail of the vanity.

I can't even put into words how much I love this bathroom.  The navy vanity, the copper sink or the sconce lights!!  LOVE IT!!

I love this bathroom for its aged turquoise wall boards and of course that great tub!!

I just had to put this one in for its watery tile and it's window!!  AWESOME!!!

Well... I hope this gives a little inspiration......
Have a great day

LIFE ISN'T A VIGNETTE- WRONG!!

Hey there everyone. So today I came across favourite kitchens in "Country Living" online....  There were some really lovely ones for sure.  But one that I came across made me go "Hmmmm"  "WHAT?"
I know that I can tend to harp on a few things especially when it comes to design and particularly function in design.  But seeing something like I this really cheesed me off!!!  What makes me mad, is these "magazines" that portray a "lifestyle" and "pretty pictures" over real life.  Yes, I understand that photo's get styled for "the shot".  However, sometimes it goes a  little too far.  Especially when it is being showcased as the ULTIMATE KITCHEN DECORATING GUIDE!!  Here is the kitchen that I have issues with:

Now let me first say that this is indeed lovely to look at but for me that's where the buck stops!!  Now.... Why do I bring this up?? I mean...... obviously someone loves their new look and probably doesn't have issues with it.  Or maybe it was just styled for the shoot, either way it is all wrong.  For real life it just doesn't cut it.

If you do indeed cook then this WILL NOT WORK for you at all, that is why I bring it up.
First of all where is the cooking fan??  Yes there could be a down draft associated with the stove- Maybe??
Secondly, what I most have issue with is the Museum Gallery of Art behind the stove!!!  If any of you truly cook out there or even boil water then you should know that this just would not work.  I MEAN REALLY NOT WORK!!  I am truly a practical kinda girl.  At least I really try to be from a design point of view.  Function first and all that.
So.... if you like to cook or even boil the odd pot of water then PLEASE do not do this.  You will regret it.  Yes it is very pretty but that is all it is.....pretty over substance!!  It truly makes me shake my head and boggles my mind.  Yes I know it is supposed to be the Ultimate Decorating Guide and all..... but really???

Have a great day everyone

COLOURFUL INTERIORS

As you all know I love colour so I thought I would show some amazing colourful rooms that I came across.  Now they don't make you feel like you are in the primary section of the crayon box- not that there is anything wrong with that.... they just make you smile or frown or just feel something!

Enjoy:

Benjamin Moore Galapagos Turquoise 2057-20

I actually made an audible gasp when I saw this one.  When I have a place in the Turks and Caicos, this is how it will look!!  Why does this space work?  Well for one all the saturated colours are at the same intensity.  And to balance all that colour they have added loads of white with hits of black.  Bright perfection!!

Gotta love Orange and Turquoise.  I think I would love turquoise with just about anything.  Hands down one of my all time favourite colours!!!

Sorry about all the Turquoise guys!!  I guess I am drawn to it today.  This is such the perfect turquoise to go with all that white and a hit of Red!!

This stairway is colourful but in a more subtle way.  Love the hit of Orange with the flowers.

Love, Love that feature wall!! Is it Orangey Red, or Reddy Orange???  Either way I love that colour.

This is one of my all time favourite bathrooms.  I just love this wall colour- Flowerpot by Benjamin Moore.
It looks amazing with all that creamy Travertine.

I love how fresh this room looks.  Wall colour is Highland Breeze (manufacturer unknown).

Wow!!  I really love this space. That green is amazing.  And, it looks great with those antique pine floors.
AWESOME!!!

In the eternal words of Penny- 'wholly crap on a cracker!"  This is amazing.  A true artist lives here.  I know it isn't for everyone but this home is a true expression of the person that lives here.

Well that's it for now.  I hope you have all found a little inspiration for today.
Have a great day everyone.

KNITTING INSPIRATION

So yesterday I literally spent ALL day trying different things for something new I want to design.  I couldn't even get to sleep last night because my brain was on over load.  Well inspiration hit around 12am!!  ARGH!!!  Makes for a sleepy morning I'll tell ya!!
So I want to make a new shawl pattern and I want to use colour......  Lots of it, however, I don't want it to be a kaleidoscope or have it look like the primary section in the crayon box.  Nothing wrong with bright, just not what I am going for!!

Here is some inspiration that I am thinking of:

Love this pic for 2 reasons!! Well actually 3!! I love the colours too :)

So I think you have the idea. Something a little southwest inspired.  I just love those colours!!

Have a great day everyone.

117g OF HEAVEN WRAP

Hey Everyone!  So I am finished!!  I have finished my wrap!  The Debbie Bliss Party Angel yarn was really great to work with.

As I stated in a previous post it is made of 72% Kid Mohair/24% Silk/4% Metalized Polyester.  It was so great to knit with.  Some Mohair's can be a royal pain, but not this yarn!!  It truly is amazing to have it wrap around the shoulders with.  It is so light yet so lovely and warm.  And I LOVE the Silver thread that is in the yarn.  Adds a  little bling without being too disco!!  It was knit on a size 3.5mm needle.

Without further ado here is 117g of Heaven Warp:

I will say that the pics really change the colour of the wrap.  It is a very deep Charcoal gray with a Silver thread in real life.  Looks quite blue in the pics.
It ended up being 22" x 66".  It really is a great size to wrap up in but not be so unruly that you can't hang onto it.  And since it is made of Mohair you can even use it as a scarf as it isn't too bulky but is nice and lofty!
I can't even put into words how much I love this wrap/shawl.  It was relatively easy to knit.  I created it with 3 different easy lace patterns and some Garter Stitch.  It really is a lot of bang for your buck.  The yarn was $11.00 each and I did need 5, but it was sooo worth it.  It is something that I will have for a very long time.  I hope that those of you out there that have been hesitant in the past to try Mohair or Lace to give it a go.  It is very straight forward and the Party Angel was great to knit with.
The pattern is available on Ravelry .  The pattern is listed for sale for $3.99.

Have a great day everyone.
